Mini Treehouse: minimalism, natural materials and design lights within 34 square meters

Neat lines, selection of natural materials such as wood and stone, accessories and design complementary furnishings. These are the ingredients of a new private project, with an urban but fresh design: it is the mini loft designed by the architect Nelson Chow Chi-wai, located in the green hilly country of Kowloon (Hong Kong).

“Mini TreeHouse” is a residential area conceived to harmoniously connect with the surrounding urban and natural landscape, also thanks to its strategic multi-level layout that resembles the image of a real tree house.

With a standard layout characterized by the separation of living and sleeping areas, the compact space of 34 sq. m, with a ceiling about 1m high, required a creative solution to fully exploit and maximize its potential. On the lower floor, by removing the interior walls, they created an open-space with a modern living and a Japanese kitchen, while an ingenious ladder leads to the upper mezzanine, which was adapted as a bedroom with enough height and space to allow moving with ease. The block, entirely covered with natural pinewood, seems to float in the vacuum; also thanks to the linear side window overlooking the forest, it reinforces the “Zen-like” organic concept.

Beside the living area, there is a small balcony with a glass railing, which extends the views from the residence to the hill, blurring the borders between interior and exterior.

Regarding the selection of colours and lighting solutions, the power of natural light and the lush greenery of the area inspired the entire living space.

In particular, the illuminating engineering by B Light included the passion for neat lines and minimal design, enhancing the continuity of the spaces with the outdoor in a flexible way. KUBO - a collection of ceilings and walls mounted luminaries characterized by a neat and compact design - was chosen in two models for the living area: Kubo 54 UP and Kubo 54 CLKubo 54 CL is an architectural ceiling or wall projector, while Kubo 54 UP is rotatable 350 degrees both horizontally and vertically. The architect choose INSERTO MEDIUM 65 CL, with a perfectly homogeneous distribution throughout the surface, to illuminate the dining area.

Mini Treehouse shows how small residential spaces can be deeply analysed and used efficiently. By integrating elements that reflect natural environment, NCDA studio created a unique and playful space where functionality meets design, thus creating a unique and special apartment.
