Abitzai unveils its Mediterranean spirit with Mimesis and Reta

The Italian ceramic brand Abitzai, whose name in the ancient Sardinian dialect means "to keep alive, to enliven, to sow," is previewing two new collections at Cersaie: Mimesis by designer Celestino Sanna and Reta designed by Studio Mamo.

Mimesis, which enriches the Origini collection, draws inspiration from mimicry, the evolutionary strategy adopted in nature by various life forms that allows them to blend in with their surroundings or imitate other species, both to protect themselves from predators and to hunt more effectively.

"The graphic lines of Mimesis refer to the reticular structures created by small marine organisms, such as corals, algae, and calcareous sponges," explains Celestino Sanna, "and fully capture the essence of this natural phenomenon, becoming a key to interpreting original architectural compositions."

Each tile becomes a true mathematical model, designed to allow designers to create unique, personalized, and visually harmonious compositions. The result is a dialogue between art and science that takes shape in unique design spaces consistent with the processes and logic of nature.

Mimesis, which is produced in a 60x120 cm format, in 7 different shades (Pearl, Cinnamon, Celadon, Ash, Fossil, Sand and Terracotta colour), is not only a tribute to the beauty of the natural world, but also a tool for reinventing spaces, transforming environments, making them unique and in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape.

Reta, the collection designed by Andrea Mamo and Lorena D'Ilio of Studio Mamo, is a boundary line between languages and matter. "We imagined the Mediterranean territory through a thin thread that unites and marks places, cultures, ideas, and people," explain the designers.

The name, which means "net" in Sardinian, refers precisely to this interweaving of relationships symbolized by the Mediterranean, from which Abitzai draws inspiration: not just a sea, but a cradle of civilization, a crossroads of cultures and histories, a concept based on exchange and encounter.

Reta's design is a simple but evocative pattern that is also inspired by the complex interconnections between different fields such as technology, ecology, and the environment. These references have given rise to a porcelain stoneware collection composed of subtle details and visual narratives, where Abitzai's authentic, locally sourced materials are presented in unusual color combinations.

The result is a product with a contemporary language that expresses itself through an overall harmony that avoids excesses and dissonances, offering a balance between lines, color, and material. A synthesis between raw and sophisticated, where light and pigments create a network of intersections with the past, the future, and modernity.

Reta is available in a 20x20 cm format in two color variants: Cinnamon/Burgundy and Pearl/Celadon.
